Bloomin’ Onion Dip Recipe

  • Author: Victor
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Bloomin’ Onion Dip is a flavorful, creamy appetizer inspired by the famous bloomin’ onion dish. This dip combines a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, and a variety of spices, mixed with chopped cocktail onions and topped with crispy seasoned panko breadcrumbs for a delightful texture contrast. Perfect for parties, snacks, or game day, it offers a rich, tangy, and slightly spicy taste with a crunchy topping.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Breadcrumb Topping

  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Dip

  • 16 ounce jar cocktail onions, drained and chopped into bite size pieces
  • 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions: Drain the 16-ounce jar of cocktail onions well, then chop them into smaller, bite-sized pieces and set aside.
  2. Toast the breadcrumbs: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Add 1 cup of panko breadcrumbs along with 1/2 teaspoon each of onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir continuously until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and fragrant. Remove from heat and transfer the toasted breadcrumbs to a bowl.
  3. Separate breadcrumbs: Portion out half of the toasted breadcrumbs into a separate bowl to be used later as the topping.
  4. Mix the dip: In the larger bowl with the remaining breadcrumbs, combine the softened 8-ounce block of cream cheese, 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon white granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon horseradish, and the remaining spices: 1/2 teaspoon each of onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional), plus 1 teaspoon dried parsley. Add the chopped cocktail onions. Using a hand mixer, blend everything thoroughly until smooth and well combined.
  5. Chill the dip: Transfer the prepared dip to a serving bowl. If not serving immediately, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate to allow flavors to meld and the dip to thicken.
  6. Add the final touch and serve: Just before serving, sprinkle the reserved toasted breadcrumbs and a bit of dried parsley evenly over the top of the dip for texture and visual appeal. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Notes

  • For best flavor, allow the dip to chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
  • The cayenne pepper is optional and can be adjusted or omitted for less heat.
  • Make sure to toast the breadcrumbs until golden brown to add a nice crunch and depth of flavor.
  • This dip pairs well with crackers, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetable sticks.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, you can blend the onions along with the other ingredients instead of chopping.
