Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
Sauce and Seasonings
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Pasta and Cheese
- 8 oz uncooked pasta shells or elbows
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Brown the beef and vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef along with the diced onion and green bell pepper until the beef is fully browned and the vegetables are soft. Drain off any excess fat.
- Combine ingredients in the crockpot: Transfer the browned beef mixture to the crockpot. Add ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, and garlic powder. Stir well to combine everything evenly.
- Add pasta and broth: Stir in the uncooked pasta shells or elbows and pour in the beef broth. Mix to ensure the pasta is evenly distributed and submerged as much as possible.
- Cook low and slow: Cover the crockpot and cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours. Stir the mixture once about halfway through the cooking time to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
- Melt the cheese: About 10 minutes before serving, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it melts completely and the dish is creamy and well combined.
Notes
- Use beef broth to add rich flavor and ensure the pasta cooks perfectly without drying out.
- Stirring midway is important to prevent the pasta from sticking to the bottom of the crockpot.
- Cheddar cheese can be substituted with your preferred melting cheese like Monterey Jack or mozzarella for a different flavor.
- For a spicier version, add some cayenne pepper or chopped jalapeños with the vegetables.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, reduce the broth quantity slightly or let the crockpot cook uncovered for the last 15 minutes.
