Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 2 tubes refrigerated cinnamon rolls (8 cinnamon rolls each, 351 grams or 12 oz total)
- ¼ cup salted butter (melted)
Custard Mixture
- ½ cup milk
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- 3 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Topping
- Frosting reserved from cinnamon roll tubes
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Pour the melted butter into the dish or alternatively, place a stick of butter in the dish in the oven to melt before assembling.
- Prepare Cinnamon Rolls: Remove the cinnamon rolls from their packaging, reserving the frosting packets for later use. Cut each cinnamon roll into approximately ¾-inch pieces and place them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Make the Custard Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, pure maple syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon thoroughly, ensuring the eggs are completely blended in to create a smooth custard.
- Combine and Pour: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cut cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish, allowing them to soak slightly.
- Bake the Casserole: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until it becomes light golden brown on top and is puffed through.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes to set. Drizzle the reserved frosting over the top before serving for that classic cinnamon roll finish.
Notes
- You can substitute pure maple syrup with honey or brown sugar if preferred.
- Letting the casserole cool slightly before frosting prevents the frosting from melting completely.
- For added texture, sprinkle chopped nuts or raisins over the casserole before baking.
- The casserole can be refrigerated and reheated; cover tightly with foil when storing.
