- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

- Sliced tomatoes, for topping (optional)
- Pickle chips, for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken Pieces: Cut chicken breasts into slider-sized portions approximately 2-3 inches square and about 1/2 inch thick. For thicker breasts, butterfly them to create thinner pieces to ensure even cooking.
- Set up the Breading Station: Prepare three shallow dishes: Dish 1 contains flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (optional), salt, and black pepper mixed together; Dish 2 contains beaten eggs; Dish 3 contains panko breadcrumbs.
- Bread the Chicken: Dredge each chicken piece first in the flour mixture, coating evenly, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- Rest the Breaded Chicken: Place the breaded chicken pieces on a plate or baking sheet and let them rest for 10-15 minutes to help the coating set and prevent it from falling off during frying.
- Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, pour vegetable oil to about 1/4 inch depth and heat it over medium-high heat. The oil is ready when a breadcrumb sizzles and turns golden brown upon contact.
- Fry the Chicken: Carefully place the breaded chicken pieces in the hot oil without overcrowding the pan. Fry them for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Remove and Drain: Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried chicken to a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil, keeping the coating crispy.
- Combine the Ingredients (Honey Mustard Sauce): In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth and creamy.
- Adjust to Taste (Honey Mustard Sauce): Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings as desired, adding more honey for sweetness or apple cider vinegar for extra tang.
- Chill (Optional) (Honey Mustard Sauce): For best flavor, refrigerate the honey mustard sauce for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Prepare the Buns: Lightly toast the slider buns if desired to add texture and prevent sogginess.
- Spread the Sauce: Generously spread honey mustard sauce on both the top and bottom halves of each slider bun.
- Add the Chicken: Place one piece of fried chicken on the bottom half of each bun.
- Add Cheese (Optional): Top each piece of chicken with a quarter of a cheddar cheese slice so it melts slightly from the residual heat.
- Add Toppings (Optional): Add fresh toppings such as lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, and pickle chips for added crunch and flavor.
- Top with the Bun: Place the top half of the slider bun over the fillings to complete the slider.
- Serve Immediately: Serve the sliders immediately while the chicken is warm and crispy for the best texture and taste experience.
Notes
- Butterflying thick chicken breasts ensures even cooking and prevents dryness.
- The cayenne pepper in the flour mixture is optional and can be adjusted based on spice preference.
- Resting the breaded chicken before frying helps the coating adhere better and reduces breading loss in the oil.
- If desired, you can let the honey mustard sauce chill to meld flavors, but it is also fine to use immediately.
- To keep sliders warm before serving, place them on a baking sheet in a low oven (about 200°F) but avoid covering tightly as it may soften the crispy coating.
- Use a thermometer to ensure chicken reaches safe internal temperature (165°F) without overcooking.
