No-Knead Cheese Bread Recipe

  • Author: Victor
  • Total Time: 2 hours 55 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf (about 10 slices) 1x

Description

This no-knead cheese bread recipe is a simple yet delicious way to enjoy freshly baked bread with a cheesy twist. Using minimal effort, the dough is mixed together, allowed to rise, and then baked in a hot Dutch oven to form a crusty, golden loaf filled with melty Colby Jack cheese. Perfect for sharing with family and friends or enjoying as a warm snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour (or all-purpose in a pinch)
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1½ tsp kosher salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1½ cups very warm water (~120°F)

Cheese

  • 2½ cups freshly shredded Colby Jack (or your favorite meltable cheese)

Instructions

  1. Mix: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, instant yeast, and kosher salt. Pour in the very warm water and stir until a sticky, shaggy dough forms. Fold in the freshly shredded cheese evenly. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise at room temperature for 1.5 to 2 hours until it doubles in size.
  2. Preheat: About 30 minutes before the rise is complete, preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a Dutch oven with its lid inside the oven to heat up. The hot Dutch oven will help create that perfect crust.
  3. Shape: Once risen, scrape the dough out onto a piece of floured parchment paper. Gently shape it into a rough ball—no need to knead or perfect it; the rustic look is part of the charm.
  4. Bake: Carefully lift the dough using the parchment paper and place it into the hot Dutch oven. Cover with the lid and bake for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the lid and continue baking for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until the loaf is a deep golden color and sounds hollow when tapped.
  5. Cool: Remove the bread from the Dutch oven and transfer it to a cooling rack. Let it rest for 15 to 20 minutes before slicing. Then share and enjoy your warm, cheesy homemade bread!

Notes

  • Always shred cheese fresh to ensure maximum melt and flavor.
  • If using all-purpose flour instead of bread flour, expect a softer texture, but it will still be delicious.
  • Store leftover bread wrapped tightly or freeze slices for easy reheating and toast later.
